This piece is part of my month-long project of building brand awareness for a local business, The Blossom Lounge, by creating a new website and making their content more accessible to customers. Feel free to come and follow along on my journey!

This week, I worked on making a few adjustments and additions to my website. I added a chatbot and made an FAQ page.

Last Week

Doing the heavy lifting of creating the majority of the site is what I did last week. I designed and built the website and all its corresponding pages. I kept the color scheme and used the information on the original site to build the new website. This prepared me for this week’s work.

This week I:

  • Added a HubSpot chatbot
  • Created an FAQ page
  • Filmed a Loom video
  • Wrote a blog post

Chatbot

I added a chatbot to my site using HubSpot. In the past, I used Drift, and I found HubSpot to be more user-friendly and straightforward. The setup of the chatbot was quick and easy, and now if a customer has any questions, they can easily ask through the chatbot.

FAQ Page

I mainly used the information on their current site and questions on Quora to make the FAQ page. I used Quora by searching keywords like “beauty salon” or “nail salon” and scrolling through to find questions that I thought customers might be wondering. I also checked The Blossom Lounge’s most active social media, Instagram, and didn’t find many questions asked there.

Video

I filmed a Loom video going over the FAQ page and the chatbot. I talked about the setup of the two and my thought process behind them.

Blog Post

The blog post I wrote is what you’re currently reading. I just wanted to go over everything that I worked on this week and give an update on how the project was going. I was going to write a blog post about the chatbot but realized it would be easier to understand if I went over it in a video.

Lessons

The workload this week was much lighter than the past two weeks, which I give credit to the work that I did in the past weeks. It can be easy to lose momentum and motivation the further into a project you get, so I think getting the more time-consuming work out of the way in the first weeks paid off.

Takeaways

I’m not sure if there’s anything I would’ve done differently this week since everything went smoothly. I’m going to echo the last point I made and say this was because I did the harder work in the last weeks. I guess you could say I unintentionally used the “eating the frog” method. The “eating the frog” method means to tackle the most difficult task you have first. This approach was a big help and is something that would be useful for future projects.

What’s Next

The next and final week of my project is going to be spent on social media marketing. I am going to be building Instagram ads for The Blossom Lounge, writing a piece about the ads, filming a Loom video about making ads, and writing another update post.
